OUR ROOTS — BUILDING A LEGACY
I’ve always admired my grandfather on my mother’s side, Ludwig Menzl. He immigrated to the United States from Germany with nothing more than the clothes in his suitcase, no connections, and an unshakable determination to build a better life. He used to joke that he didn’t even know how to laugh in English.
Ludwig began his American dream as an automotive mechanic, later becoming a tow truck driver, and eventually founding Menzl’s Towing. Through years of sacrifice and hard work, he built a thriving business—growing it to more than three dozen tow trucks before selling it shortly before suffering a stroke in 2004. He passed away in December of 2018.
At the time, I was too young to fully understand what he built. It wasn’t until I began my own career that I truly appreciated the strength it takes to build both a business and a family. When I opened Menzl Construction in 2021, I chose the name to honor his legacy.
Though our industries are different, the purpose is the same—we are builders. Building a Legacy began as a tribute to my grandparents. Over time, it came to represent something even greater: the privilege of helping our clients build homes that will be passed on to the next generation.
